Dr Cassidy is a graduate of RCSI in 1983 with postgraduate training in Elderly and General Internal Medicine in Edinburgh. In 1993 Dr Cassidy was appointed Consultant Physician in the North East of England and is currently Consultant in Stroke and Elderly Medicine in St Vincent’s University Hospital.
Dr Cassidy developed his interest in stroke in 1990 with work including
- Research in recovery and stroke prevention. Peer reviewed journals published.
- Presentations to National / International meetings.
He is a collaborator in multi-centre stroke studies – EAFT / IST 1 +3 / IRIS / Tardis / ENOS and CADISS. He was Clinical lead for stroke in North East of England 2013 – 2015 and was a Member of Clinical Standards Committee, British Association of Stroke Physicians (BASP) 2004 – 2010. With last 3 years chairing this group.
His knowledge and experience will be invaluable as we develop the Irish National Audit of Stroke.
