The Intensive Care Unit Bed Information System (ICU-BIS) was one of the overall objectives of the Irish National ICU Audit (INICUA). A bed information system is a vital information platform for hospitals not only in the management of surges but also in major incident/terror attack preparedness planning. 

The ICU Bed Information System (ICU-BIS) is web-based and it: tracks critical care bed availability daily, facilitates inter-hospital clinical transfer of patients, tracks critical care bed occupancy daily, and tracks critical care patient acuity daily.

The ICU-BIS has 100% national critical care coverage, with 77 critical care units across 33 hospitals.
