NOCA and The Institute of Trauma & Orthopaedic Surgery (IITOS) hosted the Irish Hip Fracture Meeting 2019 on the 12th November.

The event had a truly multidisciplinary focus with speakers from orthopaedics, geriatrics, National Ambulance Service, public health, nursing and physiotherapy.

The Irish Hip Fracture Database National Report 2018 was launched by Dr Emer Ahern, IHFD Clinical Geriatric Lead, who presented the findings and recommendations arising from the report. The theme for the report is ‘Right Care, Right Place, Right Time, Right Team’ in line with the Sláintecare Implementation Strategy. It places a specific focus on ensuring our hip fracture patients receive the right care at the right time to enable them to be discharged home directly. The full report is available to read here.

The event saw the presentation of the ‘Golden Hip Award’. The ‘Golden Hip’ award acknowledges the hospital who achieved the highest proportion of patients achieving all best practice tariff standards. Sligo University Hospital was announced as the winner.
