INAS - Methodology
The INAS collects data on acute stroke patients through a portal on the Hospital In-Patient Enquiry (HIPE) system in collaboration with the Healthcare Pricing Office (HPO). Data from the HIPE system, such as age, gender, admission source, etc., is merged with additional INAS data.
Inclusion Criteria
Analysis is based on INAS records as captured on the HIPE Portal software. It includes cases that are:
Admitted with a principal diagnosis on HIPE of either an ischaemic stroke (ICD10 code i63/i64) or a haemorrhagic stroke (ICD10 code i61) #
Aged 17 years or older
Exclusion Criteria.
Sub-dural haematoma (ICD10 code i62) or sub-arachnoid haemorrhage (ICD10 code i60) are excluded
Data Collection
In each of the participating hospitals, the data are entered by local INAS audit coordinators, with support from the local INAS Clinical Lead and NOCA. Currently, all participating hospitals are providing data, but data entry continues to be challenging in some hospitals as very few audit coordinators are being provided with protected time to collect, enter, review, and utilise the data.
