This is the ninth national report from the Major Trauma Audit (MTA). This report focuses on data submitted on 3,323 patients who sustained major trauma during 2022. This report includes data from 20 of the participating hospitals.


Key Findings

There was no change in the demographics for presentations in 2022: 57% males and 43% females. The median age increased by 2 years to 65. As has been stated in previous reports, the leading cause (66%) of major trauma is from low falls, with 50% of major trauma happening in the home. at home.

NOCA Commitments

NOCA will support each hospital to do the following

  • Achieve high standards of data quality and data completeness.

  • Establish a local MTA governance committee.

  • Pursue quality improvement through the provision of better quarterly reports and training in the use of the MTA dashboards.
