PCOCI Background
The Palliative Care Outcomes Collaboration Ireland (PCOCI) Quality Improvement Programme, is an assessment and response framework using five clinical assessment tools to help identify and manage common symptoms and problems experienced by palliative care patients. Originally led through Milford Care Centre in Limerick, PCOCI joined NOCA's suite of audits and registries in late 2025.
The PCOCI Quality Improvement Programme enables standardised clinical data collection, national and international benchmarking, and continuous quality improvement of specialist palliative care services across Ireland. The PCOCI Quality Improvement Programme was adapted from the PCOC Australia model.
PCOCI provides real time data to support the delivery of high-quality care using evidence based clinical assessments, periodic reports to support local QI and an annual national report to support national service planning, share learnings, inform clinical guideline and national policy development.
Alignment to the PCOC Australia model supports international benchmarking with Australia and other countries using the model.
