INOR What we measure

The Irish National Orthopaedic Register (INOR) has introduced a new central Information and communication technology (ICT) system, delivered as a secure web application to 28 participating hospitals. The system collects a detailed dataset on every joint replacement procedure carried out in Irish hospitals — it also supports local and central reporting and facilitates easy identification of affected patients in the event of implant recall.

INOR will collect data from elective orthopaedic surgery and initially only data from hip and knee replacement surgery. As a patient safety project, it aims to collect data from other joint replacements at a later date, introducing those on a phased basis. The system currently provides real-time reports to hospitals, surgeons, groups on:

  • The number of procedures by age and gender

  • Indications for surgery

  • Consent status

  • Participation level
