About the National Paediatric Mortality Register

The National Paediateric Mortality Register (NPMR) collects and analyses data relating to infant and paediatric (<16yrs) mortality in Ireland. The main objective of the NPMR is to provide a national registry of all paediatric deaths in Ireland, generating high quality data to provide an evidence base with which to inform policy aimed at reducing the number of child deaths in the future. The NPMR is a collaborative effort between each of the paediatric hospitals of Children’s Health Ireland (CHI), the Coroners Service of Ireland, Health Service Executive (HSE) Department of Public Health and a number of parent/patient advocacy groups represented on its’ governance committee. The NPMR is currently being transferred into the governance structure of National Office of Clinical Audit (NOCA).

Role of the NPMR Clinical Lead

The Clinical Lead provides leadership for the successful implementation and management of NPMR objectives. She/he is supported by the NPMR governance committee and NMPR dedicated staff of manager, researcher and administrator. Upon transfer of governance to NOCA there will be further access to audit co-ordinator, statistical, data quality & security, information technology, communications and audit standard expertise.
